In Depth on Tonsilitis

Ken called me around 3PM and told me that Ezel is vomitting again. She is so weak and all she can do is lied down. Ken said he have not given her any medicine and will give later. I really feel so sad when Ezel mumble to me over the phone. I almost cry out hearing her weak voice and of all the suffer she needs to bear. Ken hang up and I continued my work.

Then, I saw Jedi online in MSN. So I opened a chat window to notify her that her god-daughter is sick. Below conversation has been modified from the original chat.

Me : Ezel is very sick
Jedi : How come? Fever?
Me : Yes. Starting yesterday night around 9PM. Before that on and off, she vomitted... thought she choked cause most of the time I gave her mee to eat. Then, this morning when I bring her to doctor, doctor said her throat swollen
Jedi : I see I see..... is it tonsilitis
Me : I think so..... the doctor keeps saying something like 'ton.....' What is that actually?
Jedi : Tonsilitis.......... very common among some kids.......... but bad news is, it can be chronic...... infection of the tonsils
Me : That is what the doctor said.......... common among kids. What caused it? Ezel always drink a lot of water
Jedi :
http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/ill_injure/sick/tonsillitis.html
Jedi : I think Ezel has not got good immunity system..... therefore she gets attack by simple bateria/viral infection such as tonsilitis..... cause not every kids have it although it is said to be common among kids. I do not drink a lot when I was very young, yet I do not get tonsillitis at all when I was young
Me : It is? But she seldom got flu or cough
Jedi : In fact I seldom fall sick even till today cause I do not live in a protected environment. She does..... she already fallen sick like 3-4 times ever since she is born..... I can remember cause every time you told me, I count them
Me : Wow.....
Jedi : Yeah..... haha
Me : But compare to other same age babies like her, she consider fall sick little already..... cause some babies I really know, always get sick
Jedi : Tonsillitis is spread through the air in droplets when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. You may then become infected after breathing in these droplets or getting them on your skin or on objects that come in contact with your mouth, nose, or eyes.
Jedi : Erm..... compared to my own baby sister when she is young, Ezel is a lot already. [lolz]
Me : Thought she is healthier that other babies
Jedi :If you feel like you have a cold, with symptoms such as runny and stuffy nose, sneezing, and coughing, a virus is most likely the cause. I think you must make sure she recovers fully from her colds each time..... cause if it is really viral attack, yet does not recovers fully, she will have tonsilitis (cause tonsils are suppose to fight germs)..... it means tonsils are growing weaker
Me : Oooohhh...............
Jedi : If the tonsillitis does not recover fully, Ezel will have many episodes later in her childhood..... then we call that chronic tonsillitis..... we do not want that cause if Ezel gets that, she will need to go for tonsilectomy (small sugery to have her tonsils removed permanently)
Me : Ouch.............I think she gets small/little flu on and off..... that why she got that
Me : I better tell Ken about this.
Me : By the way, he been complaining that Ezel is very naughty and always make him angry
Jedi : Is it?
Me : He wants a nanny to take care her now so that he can work and no need to take care Ezel. Now, I am headache as to where to find a nanny
Jedi : I see.....
Me : Are you working now?
Jedi : Working at home. [lolz]
Me : I see..... Ezel still talks a lot even when she is sick
Jedi : [lolz]
Me : But no more running/walking here and there
Jedi : Being kids what..... means she is normal
Me : Even the doctor also said the same
Jedi : [lolz]
Me : But I think now no more cause she taken the medicine
Jedi : I see I see

Ezel is Diagnosed with Tonsilitis

Ezel has fever yesterday night. I gave her the fever medicine once we knows that she is fever. I even put the cooling patch to her forehead but she do not like it and keeping wanting to peel/take it off. Finally she asleeped. Ken said that if she still have fever the next morning, we need to bring her to visit doctor. Ken asked me to take half day leave.

When I wake up this morning for work, she is still having fever. So, I messaged my colleagues that I take emergency leave half day. Since Ezel not yet wake up and I do not want to wake her such early, I continued to sleep for a while with her.
The next two (2) hours, she wake up and asking for a bath. So, I take her for a bath while cool down her temperature. She is not as active as usual. She had a bottle of milk before we went to the clinic.

Waited for about 30 minutes plus before our turn. During the waiting, Ezel still talks a lot and sometimes wanted to go down to the floor. Since she is not wearing any shoes, we refused her to go down to the floor. Usually, she would not sit still by her own. But today, she can. She even imitate us on how to fan ourselves using a piece of paper!

Ezel yawning while waiting for her turn

Finally our turn came. The doctor recognize her and asked what's wrong with her.

Doctor : What happen to the baby?
Me : She is having fever.
Doctor : Is she still hyperactive as usual?
Me : She can sit still today. [smilling]
Doctor : Oh! So she is weak now. Usual since she is sick now. Any cough/flu?
Me : No.
Ken : Got a bit of cough.

Then, the doctor takes her temperature using the ear termometer. At first, Ezel try to avoid but the doctor manage to plug in the sensor into the ear. She is quite surprise as what the doctor did. Her fever temperature is 38.3 degree. Then, the doctor check her lungs and she started to cry of uneasy. Doctor said nothing wrong with her lungs - no flame and clear.

He then check her throat. This is no good as he said that both side of her tonsilies are swollen. He showed us a picture on the wall on the area. He explained that this is common among children and usually started with vomitting and follow by fever. He said that if it is serious, one might need to be admitted to the hospital and get injection as one is not able to swallow anything. Both Ken and I quite blur on what he said and we only can blindly nod to response to him. He diagnosed Ezel with this diease - tonsilitis.

When we leave the consultation room, Ezel is happily waving goodbye to the doctor. The doctor returned and with a smilling face. I think he is wondering if Ezel is really that strong and energetic.

After taking the medicine and make the payment, we went to the next door foodstall to eat. Ezel barely have any appetite. So she only took few slips of the barley. Ken then drives me to work.
